What is Adhocracy Culture?

The adhocracy culture is a culture of an organization that is flexible, innovative, and ready to take risks. Organizations that possess this culture promote innovativeness, trial, error, and rapid adaptation to the fluctuating conditions. In contrast to hierarchies, adhocracy has a high opinion of flexibility and allows employees to think beyond the box.

The culture is typical in startups and technologically oriented sectors where innovation is essential. Although adhocracy culture enhances innovation, it can also lead to structural, stability, and consistency problems when it is not accompanied by clear goals.

Examples:

  1. The startup thrived due to its adhocracy culture, encouraging constant experimentation.
  2. An adhocracy culture promotes innovation but requires strong leadership to avoid chaos.
  3. Companies with an adhocracy culture are quick to adopt new technologies.
